The building where the Cochin Carnival Office functions is a British building. Before the modernisation of the Kochi port and shifting of the port to Willingdon island, the ships were anchored near Fort Kochi, close to the building that houses the Carnival Office. The present Carnival Office building was part of the port office building in the past.
Laurel Club which functions in the nearest building was also part of the port office building during those days. It was a storage place for coal used as fuel in ships. Since the 1980s, the Carnival is organised in Kochi in December, and this building is used as the office for the Carnival.
